Opening reception: Thursday, September 5, 6-8pm
Blum & Poe is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of German born photographer Florian Maier-Aichen.
The exhibition will consist of both large and small scale photographs which aptly display the artist's involvement with landscape, product and fiction. Through the use of large-format negatives and studio manipulation, Florian's work literally blurs the line between reality and illusion. The photographs falsify the notion of photography's unquestionable ability to capture things as they are, and instead present the viewer with fictional images of heightened perfection and polished imperfections.
These slick, glossy images also play with the notion of landscape and it's relationship to commerce and travel. Aerial photos of the Alps capture the look and feel of travel postcards with their augmented colors and idyllic scenery, while similar views of Los Angeles have been robbed of daylight, leaving behind only a smoggy darkness. These bird's eye view images present landscape as a highly produced and packaged object that is just as capable of being sold and marketed.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM. If you have any questions, please contact Gabriel Ritter at 310 453 8311.
