Yoshitomo Nara

FIAC

October 20 – 23, 2016
Paris

For the 2016 edition of FIAC, Blum & Poe is pleased to announce a solo presentation of sculpture, paintings, and drawings by artist Yoshitomo Nara. The booth presents a kaleidoscopic survey of the artist's practice, with a new body of work as well as a mixed-media installation of historical compositions. The familiar themes of Nara's work -- youthful imagination, adult anxiety, and rebellion -- coalesce with more recently honed motifs. Large and small-scale ceramic and bronze sculptural works in umber and ivory tones inhabit the installation in the form of anthropomorphic Tannenbaums. A panorama of new ballpoint pen drawings on paper punctuate the room and reveal Nara's playful draftsmanship, alongside new acrylic on canvas and wood portraiture. In conjunction with this presentation, Nara will participate in FIAC's On Site sector at the Petit Palais with a new bronze entitled Miss. FOREST, 2016.

This marks the first outdoor installation of Nara's bronze work, and will be the artist's first solo presentation in France in over ten years. His numerous recent one-person exhibitions include international venues such as the Asia Society Hong Kong Center, Hong Kong; Asia Society Museum, New York; BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, UK; Dairy Art Centre, London; and the Yokohama Museum of Art, Yokohama.
