Asuka Anastasia Ogawa is a painter who was born in Japan in 1988. Ogawa spent her childhood between Tokyo, Japan and Petrópolis, Brazil before moving to Stockholm at age 16. The painter graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2015 and has exhibited at Henry Taylor’s, Platform 1 Gallery, Redoubt Fortress and Institute of International Visual Arts (UK).

Her practice can almost be described as folklore, interweaving into it ancestral and diasporic “bodies of knowledge” as described in her first solo show. Ogawa’s paintings convey a surreal world with a mnemonic feel to them. There is a sense of wisdom coexisting with innocence within her dream-like works that permeates canvas borders and beyond. Ogawa currently spends her time between Tokyo and New York.
