Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, Kaohsiung, Taiwan

Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to present an exhibition of works by artist Yoshitomo Nara—the second iteration of the exhibition following a debut at Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei City, Taiwan earlier this year.

Taking place on the 10th anniversary of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, Nara’s landmark exhibition is one part in a series of programming put together by the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association and the General Association of Chinese Culture, to celebrate the friendship between Taiwan and Japan.

The exhibition will feature the 53 works originally displayed at Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, plus 26 pieces exclusive to the exhibition at Kaohsiung, including a new painting, eight drawings made this year during the artist’s quarantine upon his arrival in Taiwan, and two Yamako Sisters paintings, as well as a series of 15 photographic works titled Traveling Yamako.

The traveling exhibition also includes Nara’s Miss Moonlight (2020) in it’s first presentation outside of Japan, as well as Nara’s latest work, Hazy Humid Day (2021), which is dedicated to Taiwan on the occasion of the exhibition.
